Well, it is official that we’ve (DriveThruHR) has broadcast 100 shows more or less about Human Resources. To this point it’s been very enjoyable to learn another skill like talking on the radio (albeit) internet radio it still counts as a media. In fact all the trends point to internet radio being the platform of the future. We are partnered with www.blogtalkradio.com/drivethruhr for our communication platform to bring you our #1 Daily HR show.

On the show today we had a surprise guest (surprise even to me) Alan Levy, CEO of Blogtalkradio called to both congratulate me for the 100th show as well share his willingness to discuss “our” tongue-and-cheek comment of trying to architect a competing technology platform to use for the HR channel. It was a pretty cool and humorous move on all fronts by Alan, props on all accounts my new friend.

We also had Pam Green, Chief Membership Officer at SHRM and Curtis Midkiff, Social Media & PR Manager for SHRM call into the show. It was also a very cool move and proves that SHRM is so much more than just an HR information resource, it’s got very accessible, knowledge-filled and nice people which I feel is even a bigger value than the amazing content and advocacy that happens everyday. (ok, have a I kissed enough ass yet? lol)

The top stream of conversation was about someone’s former career as a Research Scientist studying Monkey Sex. (yes, I’m using the laymen terms). Good times!

I’ve heard for years about how companies specifically Human Resources (HR) are supposed to develop and provide internal and external customer friendly experiences. As I was waiting to get my hair cut at an AVEDA salon I started thinking about my experience at the salon could be just like the standard HR department experience.

1. I would always get someone to respond in some way to my questions, feedback and/or concerns(phone, email, text, direct message, facebook message, LinkedIn, etc.).

2. Someone would offer me coffee, imported water or tea whenever I arrived for my scheduled time (performance review, open enrollment, payroll, incident reporting, etc.)

3. I could easily walk into HR and pull off the shelf any of the following:

Damage Remedy

Brilliant

Source of Replenishment

Purse Abundance

Caribbean Therapy

Inner Light

*Warning: Males might need some guidance on what this means from nearest female.

4. Operations might appear a little chaotic yet stylish but in a completely in control because you have competent people that you can trust. I already know LOTS of HR professionals I would trust for anything. (I also trust my stylist, she is wonderful as she knows what I should do versus what I want to do…)

5. I will be told how wonderful I look every time I leave, even if it’s not true with no chance of a harassment claim.

Host Bryan Wempen will be sharing some thoughts on from day one of the SHRM National Conference. We will open for business at “DTHR” and will also be serving up bite size business nuggets from the top stories as we usually do.

Instead of serving up bite-size business bites I was able to go live with Steve Forbes on what has been, should be and could happen for the US and global economy.(Don’t tell anyone but he started losing a folks about 40% of the way, should of tailored it to an HR crowd of 10,000.) I’m totally first hand for the former VP Al Gore giving his well prepared, entertaining and “Gorified” with thoughts on energy, management, one-off policy and delivered with a like-able demeanor.

I know I heard all sorts of rumblings of the anti-gorites kvetching about how much that Al sucked but I think they were just so used to bitching about the former VP they didn’t stop to enjoy an entertaining and well delivered talk. All that said… there wasn’t a ton of take-aways from imparted knowledge but I’m expecting that from the final two speakers not Steve and Al.

OKLAHOMA CITY – A collection of the region’s most respected names in the world of social media will gather in Oklahoma City this week to discuss the latest topics and trends concerning the way people interact and build their businesses online.

For Immediate Release

June 21, 2010

Local, Regional Experts to Gather in OKC for Social Media ‘Un-Conference’

Small towns using social media to spark tourism

OKLAHOMA CITY – A collection of the region’s most respected names in the world of social media will gather in Oklahoma City this week to discuss the latest topics and trends concerning the way people interact and build their businesses online.

The “Get Social OKC” social media un-conference will take place on Thursday, June 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center Hotel, located at 10 N. Broadway Ave. The half-day event is a networking and educational opportunity for everyone interested in learning about social media in a relaxed, highly interactive environment that encourages presenters to engage in “coffee shop” conversations with attendees.

“None of our presenters will stand behind a podium going through a boring series of Powerpoint slides,” said “Get Social OKC” co-founder Jessica Miller-Merrell. “Social media is a collaborative medium, and so we’ve created a setting that capitalizes on give-and-take interactions rather than the traditional student/teacher conference format.”

Cost to attend is $100. Lunch is provided. Event registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Three moderated panels and six expert-led discussions will take place between 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Oklahoma’s most recognizable names in social media will join regional experts as presenters and panel moderators. Regional guests include: Sherri Elliott-Yeary, SPHR, author of “Ties to Tattoos: Turning Generational Differences Into a Competitive Advantage,” Craig Fisher, co-owner of Dallas-based recruitment firm A-List Solutions, and Brian Wempen, host of the daily HR blog and talk radio show “DriveThruHr.”

Among the most anticipated topics is how small towns can take advantage of online resources to benefit their communities. Becky McCray, a consultant and entrepreneur from Alva, Oklahoma, and editor of the award-winning blog Biz Survival Guide, will offer guidance for using social media to increase tourism.

Attendees will also learn about social media for business, time management, new tools and trends, generational differences in online usage, gaining publicity, and building your personal brand.

Readers of Mashable, an event sponsor and one of the top 10 blogs in the world, will receive a 25 percent discount on registration. Ticket holders also gain VIP access to the OKC Tweetup directly following the event. The OKC Tweetup regularly draws hundreds of attendees to its networking events.

For more information, or to register to attend, please visit http://getsocialconference.com/blog/ or contact Jessica Miller-Merrell at jessica@xceptionalhr.com or 405-343-5751.

I’m heading down to OKC for a half day “unconference” event with 125 attendees talking about a variety of social media topics. We have speakers and attendees from Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas all sitting down to collaborate on social media issues and opportunities. This type of conference or unconference format for meeting and discussing current topics have offered me more take-aways than I’ve ever received from the traditional type of conferences, so come and join us!

Then after the somewhat formal discussions during the day we have a killer-tweetup with networking with all types of from social media experts, novices, to everything in between.

http://getsocialconference.com/blog/events-registration/okc/

OKC Tweetup

The OKC Tweetup is the largest social media networking event in the midwest boasting more 300+. Fun atmosphere with powerful networking opportunities. Amazing drawings and prizes to be announced. . .
