M&A News: Hertz Aims to Push Forward With Dollar Thrifty Deal

The number of car rental companies has gone from about nine major players in the United States to three in just the past few years. National bought Alamo, Avis hooked up with Budget, Thrifty merged with Dollar and then Hertz acquired the bankrupt Advantage. Enterprise Rent-A-Car then acquired the combined National and Alamo fleet in 2007 from the private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management, making it the largest rental car company in North America.
